I use to slightly pride myself of having learned a lot from experience. Or more specifically, endured and moved beyond failure.
Yes, I know the adage about wise people learning from another person’s experience.
And I know of the saying, “experience is a hard teacher for she gives the test first and teaches the lesson afterward. “ ( quoting some self-development book, likely John Maxwell )
But still, I know I’ve gained a level of resilience for having failed in so many areas and yet continued fighting until victorious.
Today, I was realizing a dark side to experience. That being trauma.
Depending on the situation, when we go through experiences, we not only come out with lessons and wisdom, but scars as well.
Some say scars remind us of pain so we don’t do it again. But scars can also cause us to be over cautious.
Scars or wounds make us extra sensitive regarding activities that merely come close to the offending experience.
You may need a moment to reflect…
Think about areas where you tend to feel anxious or uncomfortable. Especially areas where you are naturally gifted, but yet hesitant and fearful.
Deal with the original situation.
Think on it.
Realize how it’s hindering you…
Then either pray for a closure or healing, work with a pastor/therapist/counselor or just label it your “enemy” and make a habit of doing it afraid to simply show you’re not going to let it win.
