How to Hear God’s Voice vs. How to Discern God

This is Arvell Craig with the Monday Morning Devo for March 2, 2015

I would assume one of the most popular topics in Christianity is how to hear God’s voice. We ask questions like, what is my purpose, and what direction should I take, because these are essential to walking with God.

When we have taken a step to love or follow the God of the universe, we long to receive confirmation and realization that he is real and relevant and still speaks to his people.

In my early years of faith, what I learned was gained from popular Christian authors and TV personalities as well as my local church.

Some of the basic principles on hearing God’s voice were…

(1) The still small voice (from 1 King 19:12)
(2) The audible voice ( … ? )
(3) Hearing his voice from the Word
(4) Prophecies or wise counsel that speaks into your life…

And there were many other principles… like following peace and of laying out a fleece.

Now, let me say, I believe all these methods and have sought to use all of them.

However I believe that there were limitation in my recognizing God’s voice because of my approach and presumptions.

And this is what I want to share with you.

I want contrast what I feel as common approaches to hearing God, vs. Discerning God… (listen to audio for the rest…)

This is great, man! We’ll have to get you doing podcasts for MaxCDN down the road haha. You’d even be a great moderator for webinars. Keep it up! Consistency is key, plus you have a great message.
