OUCH!

I once sat down with an executive coach describing my business and personal road blocks. By the end of the meeting the guy tells me he could not or would not work with me.

Earlier in the conversation he made other statements like, ‘you have an rebuttal for everything I tell you.’ and ‘you need to learn to be an employee’. 

I wasn’t offended by what the guy said… He didn’t really know me and simply shared his opinions. But there was one thing he said that did get to me. 

He mentioned something like, that though I act like I want to change, I’m actually quite comfortable where I am.  He said, it takes being fed up with the way things are to get to the next level. 

In the book Necessary Endings, Henry Cloud describes limiting factors that hinder people from cutting out excess from their lives. One such fact is having a high pain tolerance.

Pain in life should be an indication that things are troubled and the cause to that pain should be removed. But when our pain tolerance is abnormally high, we live with pain, get use to it and allow it’s existence for much too long. 

Today while listening to a podcast, the speaker briefly hints at a book he’s writing, and the name of his book is “Die Empty!
