Do We Sabotage our Asking Seeking Knocking?

Asking, Seeking and Knocking
The Monday Morning Devo for December 29, 2014

Today’s devotion is a thought. And Idea. A Revelation and a Challenge.

In Matthew 7:7 Jesus says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

I have been intrigued by prayer lately. My desire for prayer is about seeing and recognizing more of God’s activity in our daily life.

The Bible is full of promises and stories of how God manifests himself dynamically and practically in everyday situations.

However, I haven’t witnessed God move in my life as much as I’ve wanted or thought possible. And for me this is the challenge. This is my hearts desire.

I am fully convinced that God is better than we ever imagined Him to be. And so I’m on the hunt to see him manifest his goodness and glory.

And so, one of the hinderances I’m recognizing lately is the idea of self-sabotage. Meaning, what are the actions that I do which directly contradict other thing that I claim I value or want.

Now let’s look again at Matthew 7:7, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

This scripture is pretty straight forward, however consider this question:

Are the things we ask for, in prayer –
Aligned with or the same as the things we seek for through out our day?
And are both of those two, aligned with or the same things that we knock on or work for throughout our day?

Jesus put all of these things together. Our asking or prayer, our seeking or learning and our knocking or toiling …

I can definitely see in my life and I’d suspect the same would be true for you. That there may be a disconnect between your request from God, and what you’re studying or seeking by yourself, and what you knock or work for among others.

No, I can’t say that scripture mandates these must all be the same, but I do wonder however, how much more could we see God move if all these three things were?

Let’s Pray:
Heavenly Father, would you breathe on this idea and if there’s truth to it? Give us conviction and correction and show us what we need to change. Would you help us to be consistent in what we do, seek, desire and pray for? Help us to know recognize and remove any sabotage we perpetuate in our lives. Help us to grow into the destiny you have for us.

In Jesus Name – Amen.
