Let’s talk about fear!
Fear is defined as a distressing present emotion aroused by impending pain or danger. In other words, fear is something you feel now, based on something you might feel later.
Now I am not one to claim that you or I should expect to live completely with out fear, however I do think we should live in spite of fear. And even more, as a child of God, we can and should expect to live less and less distracted by fear, or anxiety or apprehension in our daily lives.
So this, week I would like to emphasis one Bible verse to help us reject the lies of fear. You see fear to me, is always speaking negative ideas about the future. And I am certain God does not want us to fall under the pressure and condemnation of fear.
Let’s look like 2 Tim 1:7. In this verse Paul is speaking to his young protege Timothy and he says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
Here are 3 weapons that we can and should use to combat the lies of fear.
#1. Paul says for combatting fear, God has given us, “power” – to me this means, that even if there is a real danger threatening you, you have power to change situations or circumstances. I believe this happens through prayer. You can draw on heaven to literally change your earth. Because you have power, you can change your circumstance.
#2. Paul next says you have love. And God’s love, when we experience it can flush away every negative emotion or worry about our future. Perfect love casts of out. Fear and love cannot co-habitate your hear. So why not meditate on these words on this reality until t dispels your feelings of fear?
#3. Paul says that God has given us a sound mind. Here we deal with the irrational. There are thoughts and imaginations that are not sound and yet the creep into our minds. God has given us his mind, his thoughts so that we can think clearly and no longer worry about what might happen.
Let’s pray.
Heavenly Father I think you that trough prayer, we have power to change our circumstance. I thank you with your love, I am completely taken care of, my needs and my future. And I thank you for giving me a sound mind with clear thoughts.
So would you allow us to live this week in peace.
Help us to follow the leading of your spirit and never back down from taking the ground you have given us. Even if there are giants in the land, help us to know we are already conquerous through Jesus Christ. Amen.
