Discerning the Season

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven”

This is Arvell Craig with the Monday Morning Devo for March 30, 2015.

We have been talking about discerning God for the past few months. His will for us and activity around us. But let’s take the words of King Solomon in the light of the idea of discernment.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 says there are times and seasons for every activity under heaven. He also says in verse, 11 that God makes all things beautiful in their time.

So things just don’t happen as independent events, that they fall with their respective times and seasons.

A Spiritual spring season welcomes the sprouting of new things; new ideas or relationships.

Summer seasons are fertile ground for planting and investing for future harvests.

The autumn season begins a cooling transition from the summer and we reap the benefits of things previously planted.

Finally there is the winter season. When the ground is resting, it’s cold and no activity seems to be happening. But the winter, spring, summer and fall are all equally important.

They all play a part in creating a constant rotation necessary for growth and reproduction.

In scripture we see seasons such as wilderness times and times of promise

For me, I normally only recognize the seasons of my life when looking back. However, now after 15 years of walking with Christ, as he is teaching me on how sense and discern him, he is also helping me recognizing in the present what season I am in. And thus I can participate proactively with what he is wanting to do.

So my prayer for you and myself for this week, is that God would help us know the big picture season of our life. That we would not try to plant if it’s time to reap or that we would rest and recover if it’s a winter season for us.

Let’s Pray:
Heavenly Father, I thank you that you make all things beautiful in their time. I thank you that you are the Lord of the seasons of our lives and that as you said in John 16:13, that we would know by your Spirit of Truth, things that are to come. God would you reveal to us clearly what season we are currently in, what is coming and how we can best participate in it?

Father would you order our steps in alignment with the season you have ordained?

In Jesus Name. Amen.
