Many of us get a kick out of going against the grain. I think it comes from knowing that we could never standout when trying to fit in. But if we could take a stand countering the established way of thinking would could get our just recognition.
That’s where the pride comes in.
The goal probably isn’t really standing for something or renouncing anything. It’s about getting our ego stroked by grabbing others’ attention. Our personal pride is being neglected and this is the easiest way towards significance.
The problem is, the standard rules have with them a sense of security and resistance-free acceptance. And if we really want or need the benefits that acceptance brings, we might want to drop the need to be special.
As an entreprenuer, one of the greatest benefits is having an ability to work in pajamas, have meetings in coffee shops or wear shorts and flip-flops all year round.
However, when freedom sabbatoges our goals we need to reevaluate what it is we really want.
