Have You Defined a Successful Day?

Have you ever heard that saying, “success is a journey, not a destination?”

But how many people have a definition for the journey? How many people can live a day and feel like a success irregardless of how close they’ve come to reaching big picture goals?

Most of us define the destination, focus on the destination, put up pictures about the destination, but deal with the journey as an annoying kid brother that you mom makes tag along with you.

More and more, I’m defining a successful day, and enjoying the benefits and sense of satisfaction of achieving that endeavor on a weekly basis.

I’m more and more not taking life for granted, not assuming that I have 10, 20, or 30 years to “become somebody.”

Yes, I still have long term goals and crazy BHAGS, but I have also defined a lifestyle of success that helps me to live daily without regrets.

Dying empty, you might call it. 🙂

And it’s not about quantity, but about quality.

It’s not about balancing everything, there will be sacrifices.

But I’ve learned… as I practice the art of “do it daily”, that there is tremendous value from defining a successful day.

I’m preparing to run my second marathon in 3 weeks, because I’ve had a continuous succession of successful days.

And in spite of what happens on race day, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the process.

When you decide to make each day count, you not only set yourself up to reach the big goal, but you actually condition yourself to be a different person. You become the success, not just reaching or doing something successful.
