I was just watching a highlight video of my friend Barry speaking in South Africa.
The first thing that stood out was how animated and passionate he was as he told very familiar gospel stories.
Then I started to think about the stories.
They are over 2,000 years old.
Not the most cutting edge illustrations for moving a crowd.
But then I realized or remembered that the human condition; the internal struggles and the needs of people have never really changed.
Man searches for fulfillment meaning and purpose. We want fellowship with God or erroneously to become a god to ourselves…
But the words from scripture are likewise timeless and can always hit the very center of a person’s soul. They can reveal truth when we’re open, instruction when we listen and sustenance when we’re hungry.
We don’t need new stories; we need open hearts, free from cynicism and pride.
The search for something new, a fresh fix or intriguing perspective at best will only reinforce something we already know. An ‘amen’ to wisdom God has already spoken.
Most of us don’t need new information. We only need help applying what we already know.
