Now I know what they told you.
After hitting your goals, you’ll be totally satisfied and full of bliss.
They said when you attain something you’ve never had, you’ll feel something you’ve never felt.
But please allow me to save you some years.
The success you really seek is just a feeling…
and that feeling is available right now!
Call it “happiness”, “passionate”, “alive”, “energized” or whatever – but the truth is, if you ain’t got it now, attaining more stuff won’t create it!
Dear Friend,
I want to share with you a different perspective on success.
I believe you can feel great or feel successful every day.
And when you are feeling great or happy or energized, both your present and potential greatly improve.

Happiness Attained From Success is Fleeting
In the bestselling book, The Happiness Advantage, author Shawn Achor gives a powerful arguments about happiness and success. He states that if you think you’ll be happy after attaining your goal you will be left unfulfilled.
Research shows that when people work with a positive (happiness) mind-set , performance on nearly every level—productivity, creativity, engagement—improves… Most people believe that success precedes happiness. “Once I get a promotion, I’ll be happy,” they think. Or, “Once I hit my sales target, I’ll feel great.” But because success is a moving target—as soon as you hit your target, you raise it again—the happiness that results from success is fleeting.
Cultivate a Mindset of Joy
My friend Dr. Jason Carthen, former New England Patroit recently posted this on Instagram. It’s a wonderful statement that speaks to exactly the point I’m trying to make. He says this:
Cultivate a mindset of joy during your daily interactions
and associations. Joy causes an expectation of positive outcomes
regardless of what is taking place around you.
Life’s successes shouldn’t be limited to expensive toys or escaping responsibility. Goals of all kinds are good, but what about enjoying everyday life?
In my case, life instantly improved when I changed my philosophy from “someday” success to daily pleasures.
Simple Facts About Life:
1. You cannot predict the future.
2. You cannot control other people.
3. You CAN make healthy choices for yourself today.
Yes you CAN and SHOULD be intentional about what you can control. So why not do what energizes you every day?!
Start Doing What Energizes You Daily and You Won’t Have to Wait to Feel Successful
Here are 5 ways I intentionally find energy daily. I’m sure you have different things, but some may be similar? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
1. Physical Movement
If you can exercise slightly for at least 20 minutes, the effects afterwards will heighten your brains functions and energy. (See this article, Maximize Your Happiness Through Exercise.) My favorite exercise is distance running, and the runners’ high afterwards always makes me feel great.
2. Social Interaction
All humans are social. No one thrives alone and we all need love. Even introverts have spouses, partners or close friends. Though I thoroughly enjoy being alone and creative, I have learned that I do get energized when spending time with my closes friends. Even meeting new interesting strangers can put me in a beautiful state.
3. Diet/Food
Food crashes or lifts you; sustain you or drains you. In fact, nearly everything you ingest can affect how your feel. One thing I do every morning is make myself Bulletproof Coffee.
I do this not because I need help waking up, though that is a welcomed benefit. I actually do it because the benefits of a high fat diet as well as what MCT oil does for my brain and body.
4. Creativity
I use the phrase creativity loosely. The main idea is when you do something that puts in a state of focus and flow it can be invigorating. For some it could be problem solving, for other is writing music and for others it could be cooking. For me it’s normally writing or designing. I love to feel proud and accomplished when I take time and express myself creatively.
5. Mental/Spiritual
To me the mental and spiritual are two different things.
However, I know many readers have them synonymous. Meditation and mindfulness are very popular ideas today. And if you meditate daily, you may find your mind refreshed and in pretty high state.
As a Christian, I take time daily for prayer, worship and Bible study. As I’ve cultivated my daily devotions over 15 years, this activity bring a spiritual sense of health and well-being that gives a level of peace and contentment unlike anything else.
To Each His Own
I’m not here to make you believe like I do. I understand everyone is unique and different. But I do want to offer you a different perspective.
For those who seek success and growth, the journey can long and difficult. And I just think we don’t have to wait to feel success. We may have to wait to attain an IPO or Bentley. But you don’t have to wait to enjoy your life.
So let’s not wait to enjoy the many pleasure of life and loved ones along the way. OK?
